Celebrating 40 Years Running

This year, the Lake Mac Run celebrates 40 years since we started running our beautiful course around Lake Macquarie. This makes it one of the longest-running events in New South Wales.

The event was started in 1984 by a volunteer committee from Macquarie Shores Little Athletics, who ran the very first Half Marathon event. The event has grown over the years to include a 10.5km Fun Run and a 4km Scamper, peaking with just over 3,000 runners participating.

The event’s regular runners, who have competed over ten times, are known locally as the Lake Mac Legends. The relatively flat, scenic course provides water views and an incredible atmosphere, making it one of the most enjoyable runs on the event calendar.
